Eclipse as beacon. Revealing our inherent shared connections with our fellow planet dwellers.
Throughout all human history, our ancestors have looked up at the skies and felt the “smallness” beneath the shadows of our celestial giants.
Today, in our little New England state of Connecticut, the eclipse will cover the sun approx. 92%, yet, even the lack of totality will bring over 500 people to gather in an open space by the local college observatory.
Having people from all walks of life, come together over something like a solar eclipse is grounding. As humans, we can still have some deep meaningful relationship with a celestial occurrence.
We all saw the sun "disappear".
We all felt the temperature drop.
And we all felt that moment of awe.
We all felt our connection.
What if there were no sun? We would perish.
What we are left with is a great appreciation for the sun, its warmth, its light, and its daily presence. How could we NOT be sun worshippers?
What connects us?
What are the prerequisites for allowing these connections to occur?
How do we discern what is to be allowed?
Are there really choices with celestial phenomenon?
As I sit here with my mom, I allow the ancient, the modern, and the unknown to enter, go through, and safely exit.
It is the process that begins with the courage to experience that helps us develop resilience and compassion.
We leave together. Both of us a little wiser, and little more connected.
